Join Dawn Dreyer and Bebe Smith for an evening of film and storytelling, with food from Vimala’s Curryblossom Café!
|
For two decades, documentary maker and storyteller Dawn Dreyer has created work about her life as a teacher, artist, activist, and a person living with mental illness. Telling her story and listening to other’s created a space where she could break through her shame about mental illness and experience recovery in a radically different light. Her talk will include selections from her animated documentary, Bipolar Girl Rules the World + Other Stories.
Bebe Smith is a clinical social worker and Clinical Assistant Professor at the UNC-CH School of Social Work. She will speak to this topic from her perspective as a clinician, focusing on mental health advocacy and empowerment of people with psychiatric disabilities. She will also facilitate a discussion following the presentation.
